Sanctuary is white knuckled and (s)cream filled with anticipation for, Christmas in July, a solo show featuring new works by Caroline Wells Chandler.  Christmas in July opens Saturday July 26 with a reception from 6:00-9:00 pm.  Chandler's recent works investigate art as a psychoactive substance igniting a psychedelic experience- a process by which the subconscious reveals itself to the conscious mind.  Christmas in July explores the archaic roots of Santa Claus as the Western world's oldest shamanic figure featuring over 40 moon paintures (painting+sculpture), festive collages on vinyl which explore the artist's interest in bodega signage, Dionysian Santa, and his melty face scatological posse.  Visitors will have the opportunity to design man in their image and commit acts of cannibalism.

Christmas in July runs from July 26-until August 24.

Caroline Wells Chandler grew up in Virginia Beach, VA.  He received his Bachelors of Fine Art from Southern Methodist University, and his Masters of Fine Art from Yale University 2011.  Chandler was awarded the Yale Ralph Mayer Prize for proficiency in materials and technique.  Christmas in July will be Chandler's first solo show in Pittsburgh and second solo show in PA.  Chandler's work has been exhibited in New York at Topless (Rockaway), *Field Projects, Anna Kustera, CCNY, *Open Gallery, Nashville, TN, *Vox Populi, Philladelphia, PA, the N'Namdi Center for Contemporary Art, Detroit, MI, and the Stieglitz Museum, 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands.  Chandler currently lives in Queens and works in Manhattan.  He maintains a studio in New York and Virginia.
